Family Tree and Me

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiple Copies of the Same Print

If I want to order a family tree for my parents and then have reprints made to send my siblings, is there a cost break for multiple copies of the same print?
Yes!   Reprints are only $25.00 each.  Once the artwork has been produced, we're not going to charge you again for the creating process.  That's why this is such a great Family Reunion idea or Christmas gift idea because many families are able to enjoy our product at a significantly reduced price.  You not only come up with a unique, unexpected gift, but you also pay a reduced price for all the additional prints.

Note: DO NOT use the Quantity Button when ordering multiple copies of your family tree or you will be charged full price for each additional art piece. Instead, use the OPTION drop-down box that is provided. Contact our office if you wish to order more copies than our drop-down box lists.

Gift Giving

How long before an event -- such as Christmas, anniversaries, or birthdays -- do we need to order so we'll have the finish product in time?
Ideally we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks.  This allows for the creating, the printing, and the shipping of the product.  Will-Call is available and will save on the shipping time (Orem, UT).

How can we make this a memorable surprise gift when the person receiving the gift would be our only resource to find the photos and the appropriate birthdates?
Purchase a Gift Certificate!  This way you not only come up with a unique, unexpected gift for the recipient, but you also allow them the opportunity to build the artwork to their liking.

Photographs

Does your company do the research to find the photos we need?
No.  That is not part of our services.  We create family trees from the photos that are sent to us.

What if I can't find photos for all the individuals I want to display?
We use silhouettes of men and women to replace missing photos.  However, If an entire generation has no photos to accompany their names & birthdates, then we recommend using just text boxes without the use of the silhouettes.

What if I have photos going back 5 generations, but my spouse has nothing beyond his parents' generation? Do I use silhouette's for all those individuals?
Well, I guess you could if that was your choice; however, we would probably recommend that you do an individual family tree showing only your ancestry.  Pictured here is an example of a 4+Individual layout.

Why do you only offer family trees featuring photos in black&white or sepia and not in color?
Three reasons:
  • It's what looks best!  It gives a classy, old-fashioned look.
  • Clients like the artistic, uniform balance so that older photographs blend in well with modern-day photographs.
  • We don't want to limit a client's selection of certain photographs because an individual in them is wearing a bright, stand-out color that would bring unwanted attention to their photo.

Layouts

May I make minor changes to the layout examples that you show on the website?
Contact us and make your request.  Some changes are quite easy to make -- others are very involved and may not be possible.   Family situations/structures do vary, so we will try to accommodate client requests if possible.

The image to the right shows an example of how a layout was altered to accommodate a client situation.  This is a custom Neutral Beige3++ which features a couple, their parents and grandparents -- PLUS a line below them that shows their children: 1 daughter and 2 sons along side their spouses -- PLUS a line below them that shows the 14 grandchildren.

The couple's daughter is shown here with a husband on either side of her.  Her first husband, through whom she had her 7 children, died.  He is pictured on her right.  She married again and her second husband is shown on her left.

You mention that we can request our own phrase or quote to be placed on our family tree. What suggestions could you give us?
Here are the most common requests:

  • A Legacy of Love and Faith
  • Families are Forever
  • You will know the tree by the fruit it bears
  • May the roots of our family tree grow deep and strong
  • May we embrace the rich legacies of our heritage
  • Our most treasured family heirlooms are our sweet family memories
  • "And in that glorious day when our families are together in the eternities, we will already be acquainted."  Spencer W. Kimball

Finished Products

Do I get to view and approve the finished art piece before it is printed?
Yes.  This is standard procedure.  We have you proofread your art piece to make sure we have all the information and the placement of the people correct.  We proofread too, but it is your proofreading and final written approval that sends the art to the printer.  Errors dicovered AFTER printing are the responsibility of the client.

May I pick up my finished product in person rather than have it shipped?
Yes.  You may pick up your finished product will-call at our Orem, Utah address if you first do
TWO things:  1) Indicate this request in the INSTRUCTIONS TO US  field when you fill out the
on-line ORDER FORM: Create an Account, and   2)  Call first and make verbal arrangements
       for a pick-up time.

Be aware that when you place your order through Paypal that it will charge you the shipping
fees.  However, if you let us know at the time of order that you wish to pick up your order in
person, we can edit out this charge before it bills your account.

Do you ship products out of the United States?
Yes we do.  But all additional fees for customs, duties, etc. are the responsibility of the client.  Shipping costs vary depending on destination.

When an order is made using the PayPal system, we have a chance to review each order and compute and add shipping and handling charges.  We will contact you via email with the invoice total and ask if you still want to proceed with your order.
